My trip to Taiwan (to visit none other than Tracy St. John!) was my FIRST journey outside the country. We spent the first weekend in Taipei and visited the Shilin Night Market, National Palace Museum, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Taipei 101, and the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. We took the high speed rail, a train, and taxi to finally arrive at Tracy’s apartment.
The first full week in Taiwan coincided with my birthday and Tracy was busy at work. So… I did the logical thing and brought along my DJI Phantom 3 Professional! I set off with bubble tea and the drone in search of adventures. When Tracy finished work we headed to Hsinchu and topped off the day with an amazing dinner – this was a birthday week that I won’t forget! I visited one of her schools and was invited to dinner with the principal and teachers – it was an amazing experience!
We set off to the city of Hualien on the second weekend and explored the trails of Taroko Gorge National Park. We definitely got our steps in, although we made up for it when we spent an entire evening sampling the cuisine of the city.
We made several trips to Hsinchu City during the next week and I managed to squeeze another drone flight in despite uncooperative weather. I may have pushed my luck in 25 MPH wind but it didn’t stop me from flying over the ocean.
With one weekend left we hopped on the high speed rail and went south to Kaohsiung – such a beautiful city! We explored for the first night and spent our next morning trekking a mountain filled with monkeys… I’m surprised that Tracy didn’t bring one home. Finally, it was time to head home to Xinfeng Township for the last night in Taiwan – time flies when you keep moving!
